When is quadrophenia set

Others had mentioned "The Outsiders". I guess the point is that all young men go through this stuff, to varying degrees, all over the place. You have that dangerous period where you are not a little kid anymore but not yet a man, the hormones are screaming, you think your parents are the stupidest people on earth, you HAVE to make sure you get your share.

You desperately need to prove your manhood, because you're not a man and you're insecure about that whole deal. So you fight, to measure yourself against the next guy. And your buds are much more important to you than your parents.

The Vespas in the movie were something we didn't have around here: more car-oriented, though the greasers did have their Harley's. If there was a popular bike, it would have been the Honda 50! Sort of shows you how old and decrepit I am now. I really was blown away when I first saw the film. Seemed real raw and honest, and loved the "Britishness" of the whole thing.

But we could all totally relate, because as you see, the English kids were alot like us. Details Edit. Release date November 2, United States.

Only when he's together with his friends, a 'Mod' clique, cruising London on his motor-scooter and hearing music such as that of 'The Who' and 'The High Numbers', does he feel free and accepted.

However, it's a flight into an illusionary world. Director Franc Roddam has brought us an array of young British acting talents who bring back London's nineteen-sixties Mods and Rockers.

Set against the soundtrack of The Who's mighty concept album "Quadrophenia", Phil Daniels plays working-class Jimmy, the drug-induced Mod, who hates his job and is misunderstood by his parents. But by night, he comes alive, with the all-nighters, his pills and his scooter-riding friends.

Always on a high, life can't get any better. Then there's the Brighton scooter run, where both Mods and Rockers converge, ending in the battle of the cults on Brighton Beach. He then quits his job, blows his severance package on blues, and finds out that Steph has become the girlfriend of his mate Dave. After a fight with Dave, Jimmy crashes his scooter, and, high on pills, takes a train to a now tranquil Brighton in an attempt to recapture the elation he felt during the holiday weekend.

He revisits the scene of his encounter with Steph, and then discovers that his idol, the suave Mod "poster boy" Ace Face played by Sting , is in reality a lowly bellboyat a Brighton hotel.

He steals Ace's scooter and heads out to the cliffs at Beachy Head, where he rides towards the cliff edge. The film ends with the scooter smashing on the rocks below, but Jimmy's fate is not explicitly shown.

However, since the film opens with a shot of Jimmy walking back from the cliff edge, he presumably jumped clear at the last second.

Note also that when the final shots of falling scooter are played in slow motion, in one shot Jimmy is visible, standing at the top of the cliff. An interesting and well known continuity error in the film is that in the final scenes with Jimmy riding Ace's scooter along the cliffs, some scenes show the scooter to have a fly screen and other show it without. As the police close in on the rioters, Jimmy escapes down an alleyway with Steph and they have casual sex.

When the pair emerge, they find themselves in the middle of the melee just as police are detaining rioters. Jimmy is arrested and detained with the volatile Ace Face. Back in London, Jimmy becomes severely depressed. He is thrown out of his house by his mother, who finds his stash of amphetamine pills.

Arriving at work a day late after being detained he then quits his job, spends his severance package on more pills, and finds out that Steph has become the girlfriend of his friend Dave. After a brief fight with Dave, the following morning his rejection is confirmed by Steph and with his beloved Lambretta scooter accidentally destroyed in a crash, Jimmy takes a train back to Brighton, becoming more emotionally unstable with increasing pill-taking.

In an attempt to relive the recent excitement, he revisits the scenes of the riots and of his encounter with Steph. To his horror, Jimmy discovers that his idol, Ace Face, is in reality an undistinguished bellboy at a Brighton hotel.

Jimmy steals Ace's scooter and heads out to Beachy Head , riding close to the cliff-edge. Finally, the scooter is seen crashing over the cliff-top, which is where the film begins, with Jimmy walking back from the cliff-top with a sunset back drop.

The album was dedicated to Peter Meaden , a prominent Mod and first manager of The Who , who had died a year prior to the album's release.
