Why does utorrent say permission denied

He has to do it. If you have any questions or suggestions, please wait for your message. The comments section is just below. I am a computer enthusiast and a practicing IT Professional.

I have years of experience behind me in computer programming, hardware troubleshooting and repair. I specialise in Web Development and Database Design. I'm not sure if it mattered or not, but I did it anyways. After following the video in my previous post, downloading was fine. Wow, I was amazed. Why would uTorrents suddenly not have permission to my Downloads folder?

I looked at the folder properties and I had read and write permission, so I didn't think it was that. But after trying everything else, including playing with uTorrent Preferences Mac I decided to move the downloaded file to my user folder, and now uTorrents is downloading the files faster than I can post this reply! I have the same problem. Everything was working well. Today, I updated to utorrent 1. I went into Mac System Preferences and shockingly, the folder I usually save into was "ready only".

I changed it to "read and write" by me and by staff and this fixed the problem. I save to an external drive and recently had it unplugged, so maybe this was the problem, but I am not sure why it happened.

HOWEVER, I previously did create a new folder on my desktop and told utorrent to save there and got the same problem with permissions, so that is still strange.

Hi also had this problem and don't know what caused it so I set up a new folder in documents and directed my downloads to there in prefs and restarted and it worked. This might be connected with OS. So, everybody who experienced the problem could you please describe in detail how you update.

I'm interested here if you use different users when updating, or delete any files during the process. No reason to keep it if we can't use it.. Presumably this error occurs after a few minutes when utorrent attempts to save the downloaded file parts to disk. The directory to save to is blank and attempting to write to it produces a permissions error. Vista behaves oddly with permissions, so you may not have the permissions you think you do.

Check the permissions. I am also having trouble with the same utorrent error, access is denied, I have been dowloading with no problems until just last weekend. I am new to downloading torrents, so am not sure if there are settings that I can change or modify to help with this problem.

I have windows vista as my operating system. I had the same message on a couple of files, after changing my harddrives. I thought that giving the download directory the same path as before would be enough for everything to continue as before. But no. After reading, I tried to give permission to that folder. To clarify. I also only have one account on my computer. Yes it is administrator all powerfull tech god settings.

When goin and manually clicking all rights for all users, NOT auto settings, only then did it work. Also in utorrent I had to right click the files with the error and force it to check the files. So please do try this first. I was there myself until I tried it. Hmm, mine are greyed out until I choose to edit. Then it opens practically the same window again.

But now they no longer are grey. But it sounds like you should be able to change rights in your folder since you are admin. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. Stack Overflow for Teams — Collaborate and share knowledge with a private group.
